How to play

Snow Warning starts snow on entry. Aurora Veil requires snow to be used and reduces damage for your side; Light Clay extends its duration to eight turns. Blizzard normally skips its accuracy check in snow.

Watch out for

Key risk. Fire attacks deal 4× damage. A weather change can prevent Aurora Veil from being set. Generation 9 snow does not cause hail chip damage; it raises Ice-type Defense. Screens still do not make every setup turn safe.

About this example

This editorial starting point is not a ranked-format recommendation or a legality check. It does not specify EVs or Tera type. Moves, items and abilities here do not change the builder score.

BATTLE PLAN

When to attack, set up or switch

Snow Warning starts snow on entry. Aurora Veil requires snow to be used and reduces damage for your side; Light Clay extends its duration to eight turns. Blizzard normally skips its accuracy check in snow.

The opponent takes the weather

Aurora Veil is unusable without snow or hail, so a Drought or Drizzle switch can cancel the whole plan for the turn, and Blizzard regains an accuracy check at the same moment.

A Fire type comes in

Fire deals 4× to a Grass and Ice type, the single largest multiplier on this page, and Fire also resists both of the set’s STAB moves. Earth Power is the Ground answer that hits Fire types back for 2×.

You are counting the snow’s value

Generation 9 snow raises Ice-type Defense instead of chipping for damage, so the weather is a defensive tax on the opponent’s physical hits rather than free damage. The Defense raise does nothing about that 4× Fire weakness.

What does a safe pivot mean?

A teammate uses a switching move to bring Abomasnow in. A slower pivot may take the opponent’s hit first. Turn order and the opponent’s move still matter.

ITEM & ABILITY

How this build works

Snow Warning starts snow on entry, and Aurora Veil can only be used while that snow is falling — the screen is the reason the weather slot exists, and Light Clay is what stretches it to eight turns. Blizzard skips its accuracy check in the same weather that enables the screen.

Watch the tradeoff. Fire attacks deal 4× damage. A weather change can prevent Aurora Veil from being set. Generation 9 snow does not cause hail chip damage; it raises Ice-type Defense. Screens still do not make every setup turn safe.

These battle mechanics do not change the builder’s type-and-base-stat score. The tool does not simulate moves, abilities, held items or damage.

Teammate ideas

A Fire-resistant partner helps cover its largest weakness. Choose an attacker that can use the turns created by Aurora Veil.

    How is the score calculated?

Offense (25%): neutral-or-better type coverage and strongest attacking base stats. Defense (30%): team resistances, unprotected and repeated weaknesses, and 4× vulnerabilities. Coverage (25%): fraction of 18 single-type targets hit super effectively by your own types. Synergy (20%): teammates resisting each other’s weaknesses, physical/special/bulk stat signals and base Speed ≥100. Scores are rounded to 0–100; the total uses the displayed subscores.

Rating bands: Excellent ≥80, Good ≥65, Fair ≥45, Poor below 45. An empty team has no rating.

Small teams are provisional and are not given a separate completion bonus. Adding a Pokémon can lower the score if it creates new weaknesses or lowers averages. These initial heuristics have not been calibrated against battle outcomes.
