Choice Scarf raises Speed but locks Staraptor into one move until switching. Reckless boosts Brave Bird and Double-Edge; U-turn keeps switching momentum when staying in is unsafe.
Key risk. Reckless does not remove recoil or boost Close Combat. Close Combat lowers both defenses. Electric, Ice and Rock attacks are super effective, and this set has no recovery move.
This editorial starting point is not a ranked-format recommendation or a legality check. It does not specify EVs or Tera type. Moves, items and abilities here do not change the builder score.
BATTLE PLAN
Choice Scarf raises Speed but locks Staraptor into one move until switching. Reckless boosts Brave Bird and Double-Edge; U-turn keeps switching momentum when staying in is unsafe.
Neither can touch Staraptor at all, and that double immunity is what makes the U-turn pivot safe enough to be the set’s real engine.
A Ghost target ignores Close Combat, so Double-Edge or Brave Bird is the answer there — and when Close Combat does land, its defense drops are permanent for the stay, with no recovery move on this set.
Electric, Ice and Rock each deal 2×, and the Scarf lock means the move you used last cannot be the one you re-enter with. Plan the U-turn destination before you commit the attack.
A teammate uses a switching move to bring Staraptor in. A slower pivot may take the opponent’s hit first. Turn order and the opponent’s move still matter.
ITEM & ABILITY
Choice Scarf raises Speed and locks Staraptor into one move until it switches, so the opponent gets to plan around the locked choice as much as Staraptor gets to move first. Reckless boosts Brave Bird and Double-Edge, but Close Combat trades recoil for dropping both defenses.
Watch the tradeoff. Reckless does not remove recoil or boost Close Combat. Close Combat lowers both defenses. Electric, Ice and Rock attacks are super effective, and this set has no recovery move.

COMPARE YOUR OPTIONS
Talonflame offers Fire typing and Roost instead of Normal attacks and Close Combat.

Base stats are not final battle stats. Level, nature, IVs, EVs and battle effects affect the result. Check availability in your game before choosing an alternative.
A Ground teammate covers Electric attacks. A Steel partner resists Ice and Rock; healing support helps manage recoil.
Electric immunity and Rock resistance help create switching options.
Resists Ice and Rock and adds special damage with recovery.

Incoming damage assumes typing only. 0× = immune, ½× / ¼× = resistant, 2× / 4× = weak. Resistance counts include immunities.

Against single-type targets, using only same-type attacks. This is not coverage against every dual-type species.
Offense (25%): neutral-or-better type coverage and strongest attacking base stats. Defense (30%): team resistances, unprotected and repeated weaknesses, and 4× vulnerabilities. Coverage (25%): fraction of 18 single-type targets hit super effectively by your own types. Synergy (20%): teammates resisting each other’s weaknesses, physical/special/bulk stat signals and base Speed ≥100. Scores are rounded to 0–100; the total uses the displayed subscores.
Rating bands: Excellent ≥80, Good ≥65, Fair ≥45, Poor below 45. An empty team has no rating.
Small teams are provisional and are not given a separate completion bonus. Adding a Pokémon can lower the score if it creates new weaknesses or lowers averages. These initial heuristics have not been calibrated against battle outcomes.
