How to play

Use Spikes against a suitable matchup or Taunt to block an eligible target’s status moves. Ghost typing prevents opposing Rapid Spin from hitting Froslass; attack when support is unsafe.

Watch out for

Key risk. Focus Sash requires full HP and hazards or chip damage can disable it. Fire, Rock, Ghost, Dark and Steel attacks threaten it. Cursed Body activation is not guaranteed; Ghost typing does not block every hazard-removal method.

About this example

This editorial starting point is not a ranked-format recommendation or a legality check. It does not specify EVs or Tera type. Moves, items and abilities here do not change the builder score.

BATTLE PLAN

When to attack, set up or switch

Use Spikes against a suitable matchup or Taunt to block an eligible target’s status moves. Ghost typing prevents opposing Rapid Spin from hitting Froslass; attack when support is unsafe.

The opponent sends in a spinner

Rapid Spin is a Normal move and Ghost types ignore it, so Froslass cannot be spun out by the obvious answer — but a removal method that is not a Normal attack, or a switch to a Dark or Ghost answer, still takes the layers.

You are below full HP

Focus Sash only triggers from a hit that would break it at full HP, so the chip that costs the item is the same chip that costs the lead. Spikes and Taunt both want turns where a setup sweep is the answer instead.

You want to stop a setup sweeper

Taunt blocks status and setup moves against an eligible target, which is how the slowest win condition on the field is taxed. Fire, Rock, Ghost, Dark and Steel each deal 2× to an Ice and Ghost type, so the turn still has to be read against what can simply attack.

What does a safe pivot mean?

A teammate uses a switching move to bring Froslass in. A slower pivot may take the opponent’s hit first. Turn order and the opponent’s move still matter.

ITEM & ABILITY

How this build works

Spikes stay on the field after Froslass leaves it, which is the difference between hazard support and a damage move, and Taunt is the turn that stops the opponent’s own support. Focus Sash needs full HP, and Cursed Body disabling a move is a chance rather than a result.

Watch the tradeoff. Focus Sash requires full HP and hazards or chip damage can disable it. Fire, Rock, Ghost, Dark and Steel attacks threaten it. Cursed Body activation is not guaranteed; Ghost typing does not block every hazard-removal method.

These battle mechanics do not change the builder’s type-and-base-stat score. The tool does not simulate moves, abilities, held items or damage.

Teammate ideas

A Dark teammate helps against Ghost and Dark attacks. A Water partner resists Fire and Steel; check Rock attackers too.

These are typing-based starting pairs, not a complete competitive team. Check the remaining four slots and your game’s rules.

    How is the score calculated?

Offense (25%): neutral-or-better type coverage and strongest attacking base stats. Defense (30%): team resistances, unprotected and repeated weaknesses, and 4× vulnerabilities. Coverage (25%): fraction of 18 single-type targets hit super effectively by your own types. Synergy (20%): teammates resisting each other’s weaknesses, physical/special/bulk stat signals and base Speed ≥100. Scores are rounded to 0–100; the total uses the displayed subscores.

Rating bands: Excellent ≥80, Good ≥65, Fair ≥45, Poor below 45. An empty team has no rating.

Small teams are provisional and are not given a separate completion bonus. Adding a Pokémon can lower the score if it creates new weaknesses or lowers averages. These initial heuristics have not been calibrated against battle outcomes.
