How to play

Find a safe Nasty Plot turn, then attack with Ghost damage or coverage. Levitate normally provides Ground immunity; Mystical Fire lowers Special Attack when its effect applies.

Watch out for

Key risk. Life Orb costs HP. Ghost and Dark attacks are super effective and Normal targets ignore Shadow Ball. Levitate can be bypassed by effects such as Mold Breaker; setup does not increase physical bulk.

About this example

This editorial starting point is not a ranked-format recommendation or a legality check. It does not specify EVs or Tera type. Moves, items and abilities here do not change the builder score.

BATTLE PLAN

When to attack, set up or switch

Find a safe Nasty Plot turn, then attack with Ghost damage or coverage. Levitate normally provides Ground immunity; Mystical Fire lowers Special Attack when its effect applies.

A Normal type blocks Shadow Ball

Normal moves cannot hit a Ghost, and Ghost moves cannot hit a Normal, so Dazzling Gleam or Mystical Fire is the option that scores — and neither is super effective there, so the Life Orb turn is neutral damage.

A Ground attack is the reason you switched in

Levitate is what makes the switch free, and an effect that ignores abilities makes it cost a full hit. Mold Breaker and the like turn the safest swap on the page into the worst one.

You have the Nasty Plot turn

Ghost and Dark each deal 2× to Mismagius, and a Dark type also resists Ghost moves, so the setup turn is chosen against a special attacker that cannot answer it. Physical bulk does not improve with the boost.

What does a safe pivot mean?

A teammate uses a switching move to bring Mismagius in. A slower pivot may take the opponent’s hit first. Turn order and the opponent’s move still matter.

ITEM & ABILITY

How this build works

Levitate gives Mismagius a Ground immunity that certain effects bypass, so the immunity is a default rather than a guarantee. Life Orb raises its damage and drains HP on every hit, and Nasty Plot does nothing at all about the bulk underneath it.

Watch the tradeoff. Life Orb costs HP. Ghost and Dark attacks are super effective and Normal targets ignore Shadow Ball. Levitate can be bypassed by effects such as Mold Breaker; setup does not increase physical bulk.

These battle mechanics do not change the builder’s type-and-base-stat score. The tool does not simulate moves, abilities, held items or damage.

COMPARE YOUR OPTIONS

Mismagius or Gengar?

Teammate ideas

A Dark teammate helps against Ghost and Dark attacks. Add a physical attacker to complement special setup.

    How is the score calculated?

Offense (25%): neutral-or-better type coverage and strongest attacking base stats. Defense (30%): team resistances, unprotected and repeated weaknesses, and 4× vulnerabilities. Coverage (25%): fraction of 18 single-type targets hit super effectively by your own types. Synergy (20%): teammates resisting each other’s weaknesses, physical/special/bulk stat signals and base Speed ≥100. Scores are rounded to 0–100; the total uses the displayed subscores.

Rating bands: Excellent ≥80, Good ≥65, Fair ≥45, Poor below 45. An empty team has no rating.

Small teams are provisional and are not given a separate completion bonus. Adding a Pokémon can lower the score if it creates new weaknesses or lowers averages. These initial heuristics have not been calibrated against battle outcomes.
