How to play

Use Sceptile’s Speed to pressure a favorable matchup. Giga Drain restores some HP; Leaf Storm offers a stronger Grass attack when the immediate damage matters.

Watch out for

Key risk. Leaf Storm sharply lowers Special Attack after hitting, often encouraging a switch. Life Orb costs HP and Focus Blast can miss. This standard form does not have Mega Sceptile’s Dragon typing.

About this example

This editorial starting point is not a ranked-format recommendation or a legality check. It does not specify EVs or Tera type. Moves, items and abilities here do not change the builder score.

BATTLE PLAN

When to attack, set up or switch

Use Sceptile’s Speed to pressure a favorable matchup. Giga Drain restores some HP; Leaf Storm offers a stronger Grass attack when the immediate damage matters.

You want to attack and stay in

Giga Drain heals while it damages, so it is the move that sustains Sceptile across repeated switches. Save Leaf Storm for the turn when immediate damage matters.

The target shrugs off both Grass and Dragon

A Steel type resists Giga Drain and Dragon Pulse, so Focus Blast is the only real answer here and it can miss. Sceptile’s Speed is what makes that gamble reasonable.

What does a safe pivot mean?

A teammate uses a switching move to bring Sceptile in. A slower pivot may take the opponent’s hit first. Turn order and the opponent’s move still matter.

ITEM & ABILITY

How this build works

Leaf Storm sharply lowers Sceptile’s Special Attack after hitting, which usually means switching out rather than attacking twice. Life Orb adds damage at the cost of HP after each successful hit.

Watch the tradeoff. Leaf Storm sharply lowers Special Attack after hitting, often encouraging a switch. Life Orb costs HP and Focus Blast can miss. This standard form does not have Mega Sceptile’s Dragon typing.

These battle mechanics do not change the builder’s type-and-base-stat score. The tool does not simulate moves, abilities, held items or damage.

Teammate ideas

A Steel teammate covers Ice, Flying, Poison and Bug attacks. A Water teammate helps against Fire attackers.

These are typing-based starting pairs, not a complete competitive team. Check the remaining four slots and your game’s rules.

    How is the score calculated?

Offense (25%): neutral-or-better type coverage and strongest attacking base stats. Defense (30%): team resistances, unprotected and repeated weaknesses, and 4× vulnerabilities. Coverage (25%): fraction of 18 single-type targets hit super effectively by your own types. Synergy (20%): teammates resisting each other’s weaknesses, physical/special/bulk stat signals and base Speed ≥100. Scores are rounded to 0–100; the total uses the displayed subscores.

Rating bands: Excellent ≥80, Good ≥65, Fair ≥45, Poor below 45. An empty team has no rating.

Small teams are provisional and are not given a separate completion bonus. Adding a Pokémon can lower the score if it creates new weaknesses or lowers averages. These initial heuristics have not been calibrated against battle outcomes.
